Katie fought back against gaslighting doctors who didn’t believe a thin young woman could have gallbladder disease. After experiencing excruciating pain and nausea for several months, doctors refused to listen to Katie’s pleas to test her for gallbladder disease. This is despite the fact that her father had experienced similar symptoms years earlier before his gallbladder diagnosis. So she ate the fattiest food she could find, inducing an attack of extreme pain, and went straight to the emergency room where doctors finally tested her for gallbladder disease. Since having her gallbladder removed, Katie has been pain free. Throughout her ordeal, doctors kept telling her she would get better if she simply relaxed-something often said to young women. But Katie knew better and insisted her pain be taken seriously.
